A Visual Celebration of Korean Aesthetics
We were happy to attend Kate Oh’s Gallery Exhibit of Rutgers University Faculty and Student Show of Korean Script and Calligraphy & Korean Folk Traditions (Minhwa): a contemporary take of traditional Korean paintings and calligraphy by the faculty and students of Rutgers University.
In Korean culture, there is a close kinship between calligraphy and painting. In ancient times, both were indispensable in education as their mastery being the hallmark of refinement. Traditional paintings often include inscriptions of calligraphy, and works of calligraphy possess a visual acuity similar to that inhabiting Korean paintings.
