CULTURE SHARE: The Grenchus Foundation @ Kimono Reborn @ Kate Oh Gallery
Mary Grenchus
“A kimono starts with making a single silk thread and is created with the dedicated work and skill a many craftsman. Many of them are passed down lovingly from generation to generation - this is the essence of Japanese culture. However, as life styles change, many unknown kimonos stay asleep in the closet and sometimes begin decaying. I anted to give new life to those kimonos that are too beautiful to throw away. It is my great pleasure to see them being loved again. I use traditional Japanese craft technique called Oshie (Oshi-E) and trying to create new art with inspiration from Life in New York and Switzerland. “ ~
