"Saturday evenings all summer long, the south end of the Mall in Central Park becomes an al fresco dance hall for tango enthusiasts. In the blend of dance, song, and the shadowy night, something magical is created. Attracting one of the park's many subcultures, the evenings are equal parts ritual, revelry, and urban theater. The imposing statue of Shakespeare rises above the dancers swirling around his pedestal, his Elizabethan costume contrasting with the dress of those engaged in the sultry, sensuous tango below."
