Every year, New York City transforms during Fleet Week and Memorial Day Weekend—a time when the city’s fast-paced rhythm gently pauses to celebrate community, honor service, and reflect on the deeper meaning of freedom. Fleet Week NYC 2023, held from May 24–30, was no exception—it was a beautiful culture moment that brought people from all walks of life together in heartfelt tribute and shared experience.

A Living Tradition: Fleet Week NYC 2023

Fleet Week is more than just ships in the harbor—it’s a cultural exchange between the city and the sea. Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guard service members flooded the city streets in uniform, greeted with waves, smiles, and gratitude from everyday New Yorkers.

The week began with the Parade of Ships, a breathtaking sight as naval vessels sailed into the harbor, passing the Statue of Liberty and docking along the Hudson. Families, tourists, and longtime locals stood shoulder to shoulder along the waterfront, experiencing a moment of awe and unity.

Throughout the week, NYC’s culture came alive with:

The ceremony aboard the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum was particularly poignant—complete with a 21-gun salute, heartfelt remarks, and a collective moment of silence that echoed across the Hudson.

As New York City welcomed the unofficial start of summer in May 2023, it also opened its arms to honor those who serve and have served our country during Fleet Week and Memorial Day Weekend—a powerful tribute to patriotism, tradition, and remembrance.

Fleet Week NYC 2023: A Celebration of Service

From May 24th through May 30th, Fleet Week brought a sense of pride and awe to the city, as U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard ships sailed into New York Harbor. With the majestic Parade of Ships kicking off the week, spectators lined the Hudson River to catch a glimpse of impressive naval vessels making their way to Manhattan’s piers.

The week was filled with open ship tours, military band performances, aviation demos, and meet-and-greets with active-duty sailors and Marines. Visitors had the chance to step aboard some of the most technologically advanced ships in the world and speak directly with service members—a rare and inspiring experience for many.

Highlights included:

  • Ship tours at Pier 88 and Brooklyn Cruise Terminal

  • Marine and Navy band concerts in Times Square, Bryant Park, and Battery Park

  • Aviation and tactical demonstrations on the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum’s flight deck

  • STEM and military exhibitions for families and students
