A beautiful Evening at Kate Oh Gallery:

Bum Hun Lee’s Exhibit - Art Forms in Nature: Flower Dance

with Art Critic Benji Su

It was a pleasure to see this beautiful work in person! We are thankful and grateful Kate Oh offered this as an encore exhibit as we were too busy to pop in the first time and experience the joy of it. It was also a pleasure to catch up with Art Critic and playwright Benji Su - as well as some other Art Advisors at this amazing event! A Beautiful Reception followed where we were able to catch up with Art Critic and Playwright Benji Su and his fabulous work!

Please view Benji’s interpretation of “Flower Dance” in the video!

My interpretation is slightly different as we have done many consultations throughout the pandemic. Bum Hun Lee’s Flower Dance exhibit was created in 2021. It is amazing to see Bum Hun Lee’s use of color and the way he flips the Coronavirus Colors on their head, by creating something so beautiful and interconnected. While some of our time in our consultations has been looking at Coronavirus maps, and recognizing what the color changes mean on the COVID Maps in this country and globally… white being no COVID, red signifying imminent danger, purple being close to death - or higher death rates, and black being the worst death rate - and increased isolation…. Bum Hun Lee flips the scale of colors around…. expressing the joy and interconnectedness of people…. expressing the hope present as communication happens (the black pollen symbolism lines of communication and openness to others) as well as the recognition of the individual people (the azaleas) in our lives and the importance of each individual in our lives and the love that they share…. his artwork, to me symbolizes the coming together of a global community to offer each other hope and healing through the pandemic. The larger hearts symbolizing the lives saved and the survival of people despite the presence of COVID. Yet our individual relationships and the joy they bring each of us… and how they renew and refresh us, bringing us love to share with others. Yet also… Bum Hun Lee’s artwork reminds me that it is in and through relationship with others vs isolation that we truly overcome COVID. I am reminded of the passion and purpose that we all have, as individuals, yet the beauty that is created throughout the globe when we stay true to our passion and purpose… As Benji states in his analysis as well — I am deeply reminded of the emotions and feelings… the joy, beauty, ecstasy, and compassion that flow from each being… as well as the view of the flower…. for throughout COVID nature still bloomed….nature continued to be nature… and bloomed…. and invited us to bloom and flourish as well., on individual levels, societal levels and global levels. We love that Bum Hun Lee also included roses in his artwork, layering different types of flowers in his paintings as well, the vibrancy and the color.

Please find a couple photographs I took of the artwork below… as well as Benji’s beautiful perspective on the artwork in the video included above.

~ Bumhun Lee earned his BFA and MFA at the Hongik University in South Korea and participated in 27 solo exhibitions and numerous major group shows. He has received Honorary Award three times at The Grand Art Exhibition of Korea and National Assembly Standing Committee Award from the Korea Creation Culture Art Awards. In his most renowned series “Flower Dance” introduced in the exhibit, Lee depicts a meaning of life in a gentle, delight and profound manner expressed in clusters of flowers. The rhythmical movement expands an individual’s desire as a whole and emphasizes the importance of harmonizing social desires and that of one’s own life (~ Kate Oh Gallery: Founder) - - For More information please see: The Art Story of Bum Hun Lee, 2021
