MET Collection and the Family

It is with great joy we are sharing this MET Collection with you. We have titled this as MET Collection and the Family because it really focuses on the every day life of a family, including the Holy Family. The first half of this collection are the Period Rooms of the MET Collection. The rooms give you a peak inside the everyday life during different periods of time.

The Second half of this Collection includes some of the exhibit pieces during the MET Heavenly Bodies exhibit. (For Fashion at the MET Heavenly Bodies exhibit, please go here: https://www.thegrenchusfoundation.org/around-town/2019/3/11/met-heavenly-bodies-fashion-and-the-catholic-imagination-1).

What we found a common thread among the pieces on display at the MET Heavenly Bodies exhibit; that being femininity as well as the family. Different depictions of Our Lady and the Christ Child could be found throughout the exhibit, as well as images of the Holy Family. The ones we loved the most were the Images of Our Lady visiting Elizabeth and their reactions to each other in, shown in sculpture. Additionally, you will see common, everyday objects, but also, different items that were used by traveling pilgrims. From the Jewelry in the exhibit, the clothing, the marble, wooden, or brass sculptures, you experience the softness of the divine through the elements used, chosen and the designs sculpted. Yet, you see a true story unfold, the story of a family, and a child… that God was always inspiring and reaching out to others through. This shows the beauty of the not only the divine feminine, but also, the beauty through which creativity flows, but reaches, not only the disciples illustrated through the pieces but also, the viewer of the pieces that attended the exhibit. Both the rooms as well as the MET Heavenly Bodies Exhibit display the beauty of the divine, and the beauty of divine presence in the world. Throughout the exhibit and through the elements used, you also see the strength of the people that overcame the many obstacles in their lives, but also the strength of God that gave them courage to create and the thrive in their lives, while also weathering the storms and trials of life.

The MET is also a wonderful place to take youth to take a step into a living history, from the visits to the period rooms to visits to the different exhibits within.
