The Grenchus Foundation ~ ARTS IN NATURE GALLERY EXHIBIT II

It was an amazing week! We met an amazing family Liza who was having brain surgery. We had many different guests in the park today, and special guest artist David Baise.

On Watercolorist, Artist, and Art Director DAVID BAISE ~ Born in 1939, in Indiana, David grew up in California, and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from The Cooper Union School of Art, NYC in 1966.

In 1957, at age 17, the artist’s talent was recognized, and he was given a major one-man exhibition at the Grand Central Art Galleries, Biltmore Hotel, located in Grand Central Station, New York.

David graduated from Santa Barbara High School in 1957, and from Claremont Men’s College and Pomona College in 1960. During high school and college, he designed and decorated parade floats for the City of Santa Barbara, CA.

David Baise studied at the Art Students League, NYC, during 1960 -62, and at The Cooper Union from 1962 to 1966, where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. He also studied design under the Buckminster Fuller Master’s Program, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL during 1966-67.

David spent 30 years in commercial art, advertising, printing, art direction and sign painting (he painted signs for the NYC Marathon). He was the unattributed inventor of the “Comic Sans” (Microsoft) typeface, and also created for the Canadian Fairs and Exhibitions.

David has lived in New York City in the East Village neighborhood since the 1960s, but due to illness (including back issues, colitis and much more) he has had to "stall" his painting until recent health improvements….We are very greatful he painted with us this Friday!!

He works in a variety of mediums, including watercolor, acrylic, pencil and mixed media.

Both pieces of artwork he created with us were watercolor on mixed media paper (because we ran out of watercolor paper). Thank you David! Next time we will have more watercolor paper for you for sure!!
