Hint 2: On Positive Parenting of Children and Teenagers - Connecting With Your Child

Hint 2: On Positive Parenting of Children and Teenagers

  • Connecting with your child ~

Having a connection with your child / teenager is about knowing the things in life what are important to them, these include the little details like their routine, the position of their team, the names of their friends, what their favorite sandwich is, their favorite stuffed animal is and where they left it last….

When you know the little details - it gives you an opportunity to positively influence them about other important matters, such as discussions of drugs or safety, or school dances, their feelings towards others.

  • Build a connection with your child

We know sometimes teens or even children can become distant - building a great relationship with your child takes effort and is result of emotional investment of your time and energy. It also takes actively setting time aside when you can talk to your children/teenager and be with your child/teenager in a relaxed way.

  • Be encouraging - notice if things have become difficult for your child or teen. Thank your child/teenager when they do something nice, kind, or a chore etc… compliment your child or teen on their work, on what they do, or on their appearance or outfit etc., or if they handle a situation very well.

  • Look for the positive they are doing and give praise and thanksgiving

  • Respond to your child or teenager taking initiative and when your child or teen attempts to connect with you.
