Lisbon: new stage in the preparation for the next WYD
The Local Organizing Committee of WYD 2023 announces the "implementation phase" - a further stage in the preparation of the World Youth Meeting to be held in Lisbon in August 2023
"It is great to see people united for the same goal: to get the message of Jesus everywhere," says Rita Xavier, one of the volunteers contributing to the preparation, also emphasizing the joy of "seeing the union of all, within the Church. Her message is part of the short video made by COL to share the spirit of mobilization and joy that accompanies the preparations. Adding to the enthusiastic voices of the young people is the appeal of Msgr. Américo Aguiar, auxiliary bishop of Lisbon and president of the WYD Lisbon 2023 Foundation. We are counting on the Pope, we are counting on the Cardinal Patriarch, we are counting on the whole team, to welcome young people from all over the world next August 2023. We count on you!" - he says.
The clip was released following the meeting, convened by the organizers of the next World Youth Day in the afternoon of February 12 with the participation of more than 200 people - members and volunteers of COL, involved in the organization of the world youth meeting with the Holy Father. The purpose of the meeting, which was also attended by the Patriarch of Lisbon, Card. Manuel Clemente, was to take stock of the preparation so far and to invite everyone to follow a further stage, called: "implementation phase".
Together with the work of the COL, the pilgrimage of the WYD symbols - the Cross and Marian icon Salus Populi Romani – also continues in the dioceses of Portugal. As with previous versions of WYD, about a year before the meeting, registration for the event will begin, and in the autumn of this year, national and international youth ministry leaders will receive more detailed information regarding the 37th. World Youth Day, guided by the theme: "Mary got up and went with haste" (Lk 1:39).
