Yo-Yo Ma is a world-renowned cellist and cultural ambassador celebrated for his virtuosity, artistic versatility, and humanitarian efforts. Born on October 7, 1955, in Paris, France, to Chinese parents, Ma began playing the cello at the age of four and quickly gained recognition as a prodigy. He later studied at prestigious institutions like The Juilliard School and Harvard University, where he graduated in 1976.
Renowned for his interpretations of the classical repertoire, Ma's extensive career spans genres, including Baroque, contemporary, American bluegrass, and global music traditions. He is particularly known for his collaborations, such as with the Silkroad Ensemble, a collective he founded to explore the intersection of music, art, and cultures along the historic Silk Road.
